Appalachian Bucktail - AA
Appalachian Bucktails are premium whitetail deer hair for fly tying — harvested right here in West Virginia during the most recent deer season. Each tail is hand-tanned and dyed by the Natives crew in our fly shop, producing some of the finest bucktail for streamers, saltwater patterns, and classic wet flies available anywhere. The long, stiff fibers of whitetail deer hair breathe and pulse in the water with a lifelike action that synthetic materials simply can't replicate — which is why bucktail has been a staple of fly tying for generations.
Please note the grading system below — each grade is determined by the average hair length of the tail.
Photos are for color reference only and do not represent the exact bucktail you will receive.
Grades:
- AAA: 4" or longer hair fibers — Sold in-store only
- AA: 3–4" hair fibers (About 80% of our tails) — Available online
- A: 1.5–3" hair fibers (or damaged AA/AAA tails) — Sold in-store only
Whether you're spinning up Clouser Minnows, Deceivers, Bucktail Streamers, or classic Atlantic salmon flies, Appalachian whitetail bucktail delivers the fiber length, natural taper, and movement that serious fly tyers demand.
